Is this the final nail in a Shenmue sequel’s coffin?
In games, sometimes the illusion of freedom is better than freedom itself. At times a developer can give the player too much freedom. Yes, freedom within a game is indeed a great thing but too much freedom can take away from the story the developers are trying to tell. Shenmue does have freedom but often times gamers overplay that freedom. It does have freedom but it doesn’t let you leave your town or even climb over the fence in Ryos back garden. Shenmues freedom is both heavily constrained and beautifully nuanced and that’s what makes it wonderful.
