by Shane Willoughby - on Jul 22nd 2010 at 10:55 am (IST). This post has No Comments

Activision and High Moon Studios have confirmed the first DLC pack for Transformers: War For Cybertron. The pre-order characters of Shockwave, Demolisher and Jazz along with two other characters and four new multiplayer maps are coming on July 27 for PS3 and Xbox 360.

The three pre-order characters are joined by the Autobot Scattershot and the Deception Onslaught. War for Cybertron also gets two additional Escalation maps, “Forsaken” for fighting off Decepticons and “District” for defending against Autobots. The multiplayer modes will also get two new maps, “Havoc” and “Fortress”. Sounds great. If Optimus Prime were here he’d tell us all to transform and roll out. Off we go.

Transformers: War For Cybertron Review

Transformers and video games traditionally don’t mix. It’s probably one of the most poison ‘huge franchise meets gaming medium’ cocktails. The last two transformers games, inspired by Michael Bay’s live action films, were particular tame and ill conceived. The last Transformers game that actually ‘worked’ as such, was ‘Transformers: Armada’ a little gem of a game that was probably much better than the cartoon series it was attempting to emulate. It seems that if you try to create a Transformers game based on a film or cartoon spin off already in place then, with the exception of Armada, you are destined to fail. High Moon Studio’s decision to make War for Cybertron an original game with an original story, original character designs and bearing no allegiance to any already established movie or cartoon series is probably the best thing they could have ever done with these robots in disguise. War for Cybertron is a real triumph and goes some way to rewriting the wrongs of transformers’ videogame past.

I’m a bit of a Transformers freak. The latest trailer for War For Cybertron, this one concentrating on Multiplayer, has literally made my day. Watch it for yourself below. This looks awesome and extremely fun. The trailer shows off just what we can expect from team deathmatch, conquest and countdown to extinction. And if you look carefully you might just catch a glimpse of what looks like a female autobot. Arcee perhaps? Either way i’m pumped. Game is out June 22nd.

Transformers: War for Cybertron Announced!

This month’s Game Informer packs a little surprise with the exclusive unveiling of a new Transformers Game, this one entitled Transformers: War For Cybertron. The game is being developed by High Moon Studios (The Bourne Conspiracy, Darkwatch) for Activision and will be launched for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC formats in 2010. The game is an original story and is not tied to any of the big budget Transformers live action movies. The aesthetic for the game is however being described as Generation 1 (the original cartoon) meets the big budget movie. Sounds interesting. Were also told it will be an over the shoulder 3rd person adventure in the same vain as something like Gears of War. Transformers deserves a decent game as the 2 movie tie-ins weren’t up to par. The Transformers game released by Atari on the Playstation 2 way back in 2003 was the last game to do Megatron and Optimus Prime any justice. That game was based on the Armada cartoon series. Below are a few scans of Game Informer taken from fansite The Allspark. They’re not of the best quality but give you some idea of what Megatron, Optimus and what looks like Soundwave will look like. More on this as we get it.
