Today Sega announced that Shinji Mikami’s Vanquish will be releasing on October 22nd in Europe for PS3 and 360. Sweet

Here’s a bunch of new screens for Mikami’s Vanquish. The game looks gorgeous. Mikami himself has been telling the E3 faithful that the final game will be the ‘essence’ of Resi favourite Resident Evil 4.

“We didn’t really go back and reference Resident Evil 4,” Mikami told CVG.

“However, there are a few staff members from that project on the Vanquish team, so I suppose you could say that some of the ‘essence’ of that game has carried over into this one.”

It’s not easy following on from Shinji Mikami, just ask Jun Takechi. Jun was the producer of Resident Evil 5 and the soon to be released Lost Planet 2 and he has expressed just how much pressure he felt steping into Shinji’s shoes at the helm of RE5.

“Yes, it’s true we did feel extreme pressure – and Mikami-san’s shadow – after Resi 4,” Takeuchi told Xbox World 360. “However, because we were creating the sequel to this huge franchise we wanted to make our fresh direction clear.”

“Personally, I don’t think I’m gonna deal with Resident Evil 6 at all – as far as the series is concerned I’m not planning to return until at least two more Olympics have passed.”

When Shinji Mikami announced that his next non-resident evil project was going to be a shooter with Bayonetta developers Platinum Games, the world listened but didn’t really care. Then he told us that this shooter would be an offline only affair and the world seemed to care even less. That said, the game, visually at least is beginning to really pack a punch as these new screens picked up by Kotaku can vouch for. All of a sudden you have our attention Mr. Mikami…..mu ha ha ha ha ha (evil laugh)!!

The latest edition of Famitsu has revealed what Shinji Mikami’s debut project with his ‘Tango’ studio. The game, which will be unveiled on his site once the countdown reaches zero, is a PS3 exclusive called “Krieg”. It’s a post apocalyptic game (Fallout Style) with traditional RPG elements in real time.

Here’s a translation of the Famitsu reveal that gives us some idea of what to expect from the game. Expect more details and artwork to become available when the countdown ends.

Geoff Keighley tweeted during the week that Platinum Games (Bayonetta & Mad World) would announce their new game on on GTTV and he wasn’t lying. The show has since aired and we can tell you that the new game is called ‘Vanquish’ and it’s an FPS. Think Halo meets Mass Effect meets Zone of The Enders meets PN 03.
