Final Fantasy XIV online creator and director Hiromichi Tanaka has told Eurogamer that the “closed” nature of Xbox Live bloacked the game from ever appearing on Xbox 360.
“The main reason why we couldn’t go with Xbox 360 was the Xbox Live system,” he told Eurogamer at E3.
“[Live is] different to the normal internet environment, so when we wanted to introduce this game in the same environment as Windows PC it had to be PS3, so that was our choice.”
“Microsoft has a different point of view: they want to have a closed environment for Xbox Live. We’re still talking to… We couldn’t come to an agreement on Xbox Live.”
Final Fantasy XIV Online is in development for PC and PS3. It won’t be coming to the 360 anytime soon by the sounds of things.
The E3 2010 trailer for the MMO Final Fantasy XIV has been released after it’s looking gorgeous. The trailer shows off some of the usual CG sequences but then cuts to some great looking
Square-Enix are considering adding Move support to Playstation 3 exclusive Final Fantasy XIV.
Speaking to the EU PlayStation Blog about the motion controller Hiromichi Tanaka commented that;
“Unfortunately, we haven’t had chance to try it [PlayStation Move] out yet but we’ve heard very interesting things about it and we’d like to look at supporting it in Final Fantasy XIV, if we get the chance to do so.
“However, at the moment I would say that there are no current plans.”
He added that with Final Fantasy XIV, Square-Enix want to bring a unquie MMO experience to the console for the very first time.
“Because Final Fantasy XIV is designed as a cross-platform MMO, there is no difference between the PC version and the PS3 version. We believe that previous attempts to bring MMOs to consoles have been unsuccessful because they focused too much on adapting their style to suit that audience and they lost the feel of a true MMO. Therefore, regardless of the platform, we are aiming to produce a real MMO with Final Fantasy XIV.”

Final Fantasy fans, if you can find the time drag your eyes away from Final Fantasy XIII, then have a look at these new Final Fantasy XIV Screenshots from GDC. The RPGSite is carrying over forty new screens so go there to entire load. Here’s such a small taster to begin with. The FFXIV beta begins on PC today with a PS3 beta expected during the summer at some stage.
f (like me) you picked up a copy of Final Fantasy XIII on Playstation 3 today, you might have noticed that your game comes with a Square-Enix Members card. This card comes with a code which according to MCV, when inputted on the Square-Enix website will grant the user a special in game item for upcoming PS3 MMO Final Fantasy XIV. That and this code might just eventually grant you access to the FFXIV beta later in the year. Not bad. If you own a copy of Final Fantasy XIII on the 360, well im afraid that your game dosen’t come with such a code. Sorry folks.
Not content with getting their hands on Final Fantasy XIII, it looks like 360 owners will be getting Final Fantasy XIV too. At least that’s what Square-Enix’s Yuuki Akama has to say. According to Yuuki’s Linked In CV Profile, Yukki is currently the lighting lead on Final Fantasy XIV for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
So there you have it. Could this be a simple error? A typo? We doubt it. But c’mon, would anyone actually be surprised if this was announced for the 360?!
Thanks Siliconera.
Shonen Jump, a kind of Japanese Manga magazine has unearthed some crucial new details relating to both FFXIII and FFXIV. The scans taken directly from the forthcoming issue below reveal the existence of Alexander and the Chocobos in FFXIII. Great! TGL loves Chocobos. As crucial however is the revelation that FFXIII will include a BETA code for access to FFXIV. Interesting. TGL assumes that access won’t be immediately available to FFXIV and that these codes will obviously only be included in the PS3 version of the game (FFXIV is PS3 exclusive). We’re going to keep an eye out for next week’s Famitsu. Hopefully it will give us more details on this big news. Stay tuned.
