So they’re saying we could be weeks away from a new console getting announced and next-gen truly kicking off………………

I’m sure I care at all anymore. All I want to do is play games. Just give something that plays games

I figured when the rumours began at the start of the year it was the same thing again as last year, just bull basically. But the excessiveness of these rumours now is a bit much to ignore I suppose. I initially thought (a few years ago) that E3 2013 was when we’d get new consoles announced, but as of late my mind had changed as I genuinely thought Sony and Microsoft had become quite content with where they were at the moment but seems I was wrong. Personally at this stage I just want to know where Final Fantasy Versus XIII and The Last Guardian are before anything else. If they end up being next-generation titles then I’ll just buy the early super-amazing-totally-limited-even-though-it’s-not-really-because-we-made-like-a-million-of-them editions and have them there for whenever I get a console (mind you it’s hard to see it happening with the former because we’ve had the footage that we have had and considering the money SE have put into Versus’ development so far it would be unbelievable if they decided to scrap everything, but TLG could be different, we haven’t really seen any footage yet and the same thing did happen with ICO after all).

It’s odd. I don’t think I’ll bother getting either one of those consoles, and certainly not a Wii U.

I fully expect the Xbox720 (I hate that name, but I guess what else could we call it?) to be very Kinect 2 centric. I’m picturing a large chunk of the line-up to be motion control games, as Microsoft once again try and crack into that market. That’s not what I want from a console.

If the PS4 does indeed have a way for it to block pre-owned games, I’m not getting it. Pure and simple. For me that’s a complete deal breaker. I’m one of those people who buy pre-owned games, and the sheer idea of locking them out is fucking stupid. Absolute madness. Plus, motion controls, etc.

But this all depends on the Steam Box. If that turns out like I hope it will it could be a console killer for me. I’m not going to own all three. Just one. And I’m preparing myself for the day where it’s neither of the two leading platforms.

The price is what everyone will be interested in. When the PS3 launched it was 629 Euro in Ireland, just for the 80GB fat model and given the recession and that, I have a feeling many will be still buying PS3 games after the console releases.

I’ll need to see all the facts before I make a decision either way.

I’m growing increasingly sick of the industry, the crap, the shameless selling out, the same games again and again, cross-over DLC, on-disc DLC, micro-transactions, the image of gamers…

Next-gen is on a knife-edge for me. I’ll be watching both machines, but am yet undecided. If next-gen ends up like this, I’m off to PC land. And sadly, that could ulltimately mean letting go of the gaming scene in years to come…

I find myself in the exact same boat as you Joe! I’m planning on building a PC in the next couple months. And whereas in January’s past I was contemplating which games I’d be buying that year, I’m now making a list of the games I just can’t be bothered with!

I’ve also been thinking about when or if I’ll let go of the gaming scene. A thought which a few years ago would never have crossed my mind! Its been such an important part of my life; but its just not the same scene as when I was growing up. And this isn’t the rose tinted glasses speaking or anything, I just find myself increasingly annoyed with the industry and the people in it….

Yep, it’s sad really. When I am lecturing I tell my students that I’ll be gaming when I’m much much older, but I feel less truth in that phrase as the weeks pass.

I’ve been the same for a while. To be honest I have already decided I’m moving to PC with the way the industry has gone (I am positive it will continue and only get worse). Just at this stage I will miss or want some console at some stage for good platformers, but I can get something cheap down the line if I somehow manage to secure a job.

I’m sure we’ll all keep playing games in the future; but it’ll just be all our old games that we keep going back to.

However bad the industry gets, it can’t take the classics from us.

Wow everyone seems so down on the idea of the new consoles.

The PC is an excellent platform for games for sure, but i enjoy the simplicity that console gaming brings. I’ve spent the best part of today playing Hotline Miami on my laptop and it’s an excellent game, but it has crashed to desktop for me twice already. Why? I don’t know, it could be a million reasons. With consoles it’s a simple push play and go mentality. If a game breaks i’m not going to spend an afternoon trying to figure out if it’s the game or my laptop that has the issue, i’m just going to accept it’s fucked and return it.

I for one am ready for the new consoles. I’m looking forward to seeing what new and ambitious IP’s come about with the more powerful hardware (games like Watchdogs and Destiny have already been all but announced), as well as playing the next Halo or Uncharted or what have you.

I loved the old days of gaming too but  I don’t think anyone can really complain about some of the excellent games that the current generation brought. If the next generation brings just a part of that then i can’t see a reason to think about dismissing it before it even begins.

Had to pop that on TGL’s facebook XD

    @Phil

I agree about not dismissing it all before it starts, but, I feel so stodgey when it comes to next-gen. There’s gonna’ be some epic stuff to be had, point and case Watch Dogs…

I dunno, maybe I’m just a grumpy old prick these days
