It’s quite difficult to actually categorise Asura’s Wrath and identify just what exactly the game “is”. On the surface, it’s a character driven action game defined by huge set pieces, quick reactions and some rather epic character design. However, it’s indelibly tricky, from the recently released two episode demo at least, to actually gauge just where the game’s true integrity lies. Is it an ambitious story driven action title or merely a prolonged cut-scene filtered by a plethora of quick time events? Based on what I’ve played of the demo, it’s both.

Truth be told, not enough launch games, with the expectation of LittleBigPlanet and Little Deviants, are really “going for it” when it come to the portable and it’s inimitable and distinctive control impetus. Little Deviants however, is probably the best example of what can be done with Vita’s controls, both creatively and technically.

Zipper Interactive’s Unit-13 on Playstation Vita doesn’t exactly make much of a first impression. It’s a twin stick third person shooter from the makers of SOCOM and MAG and is unequivocal and unreservedly total in it’s execution of a game you’d expect from this genre. It’s the same third person shooter you’d played countless times before on any number of consoles and portables over the last four or five years and does little or nothing to push the genre forward. Innovation isn’t exactly Unit 13’s strong point. Sure, it plays like it should, looks nice, use’s some of Vita’s innovative hardware quirks and is in equal measures both competitive and rewarding, but you’ve quite simply done all this before. However, Unit-13 isn’t something that should be cast aside just yet. Behind the well lobbied frame work, is an innovative online component that deserves more attention.

The Vita is a beautifully crafted piece of hardware and as such, playing any game, FIFA or otherwise, is a real treat. However, my time with Vita in this instance was with football’s most distinguished series, only this time I was playing FIFA in a way that was completely different and yet strangely complementally to the norm.
