Charm Offensive: Tank! Tank! Tank! – Hands-On Impressions

by Shane Willoughby - on Oct 30th 2012 - No Comments
TANKROBOT

Tank! Tank! Tank! is the kind of curious Japanese oddity that people will either unanimously embrace or just as zealously reject within minutes of booting it up on Wii U for the very first time. Perhaps just as curious as the game itself is the decision by Namco-Bandai to take the three year old Japanese arcade phenomenon that is Tank!...

Taking an established franchise portable is never going to be easy. Gamers already have a wealth of expectations as to what they should expect – and thankfully, Liberation attempts to address many of these. Our demo began in the swamps of Bayou. Ordered to clear out a fort, we started to naviagate through the murky surroundings...

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is the kind of game that unanimously owns you from the moment you pick up the controller and take those first tentative steps into its absolute wondrous beauty. Sitting down with the latest English build of Ni No Kuni, we couldn’t help but be hypnotised by the game’s purity. You kind of want to...

Judging a book by its demo – Silent Hill: Book of Memories Hands-On Impressions

book-of-memories-main1

The Silent Hill HD Collection really hurt……… The collection, a seemingly “just release it and you can’t fail” HD coupling of Silent Hill 2 and 3, only compounded the now popular belief that Konami has lost their way with this once beautifully brutal and wondrously horrific franchise. The collection only serves...

Reinventing an established IP is never an easy feat. How do you balance the new with the old? How do you appease the fans while generating new ones? Assassin’s Creed 3 aims to do this as it takes a bold step towards the American Revolution setting. Essentially our hands-on preview broke into two parts: the well-documented naval...

METALGEARRISNGFEATURED

All Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance articles start the very same way. There’s simply no avoiding Rising’s initial teething problems. So much has been made of the game’s protracted incubation period, it’s prolonged, unanimously anxious early development and its revised status as a Kojima Productions AND a Platinum Games Raiden...

Another week, another piece of Stargate SG-1: The Alliance coverage. I’d also just like to announce that I have conducted an interview with Ben Lenzo, CEO of Perception, about SGTA, why it was cancelled, planned Stargate games assuming SGTA was released and, if there is a future for SGTA. We will make a full announcement in time but expect it two weeks from today. Next week I’ll be kicking off the extensive Youtube gameplay coverage. Stay tuned! The best is yet to come…

Hands-On Impressions: Wipeout 2048

by Shane Willoughby - on Dec 6th 2011 at 3:08 pm (IST). This post has No Comments

As new hardware launch titles go, you can’t really go wrong with Wipeout. The classic futuristic racing franchise is quintessential Playstation; an acclaimed strand of Playstation DNA that is as much brand PSX as any rapping cardboard cut out dog, any box mashing apple chugging marsupial, any wise talking treasure hunting man raider or any x, circle, square or triangle face button for that matter.

Hands-On Impressions: Super Stardust Delta

by Shane Willoughby - on Dec 3rd 2011 at 3:46 am (IST). This post has No Comments

Side-scrolling twin stick shooters have become something of a dietary staple of the console digital space this generation; they’re very much part of the downloadable arena’s DNA. And yet, amidst all the dozens of variant shooters that have emerged over the last how many years, Housemarque’s Super Stardust HD on the Playstation Network is the only twin sticker to keep me coming back for more. Super Stardust makes the transition to Playstation Vita this February for launch, subtitled “Delta”, and if my short preview time with it is anything to go by, then Delta and Vita are an ultimate match made in twin stick heaven.

Hands-On Impressions: Uncharted: Golden Abyss

If games releases were presented on a stage to showcase their collective wares, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception would be the act that no one would ever want to follow.

In this post (Motorstorm) Apocalypse era, Evolution have decided to change tact significantly, creating a new Motorstorm experience for Playstation Vita and the PSN that’s less about devastating speed scenes and more about Mega Drive Micro Machines. Say hello to Motorstorm RC.

Forza 4 faces a mountain of interest, but in equal measure a mountain of fans ready to pick the entire game apart – thanks to stiff competition like Gran Turismo. Recently we had hands-on with Turn 10′s latest offering to the franchise to see what all the fuss was about.
