Ubisoft has confirmed this evening that the next Assassin’s Creed will drop before the end of FY14. The next game will have a new hero, a new setting and will represent a “major leap forward” for the franchise. That means the game will almost certainly launch before March 2014.
“We are delighted and proud to announce today that in FY14 14, we will introduce an all-new Assassin’s Creed hero, within an all new team and time period,” said company CEO Yves Guillemot at an investor call earlier this evening. “We expect it to be another major leap forward for the franchise,” he added. It would also seem that more than one development team have been contributing to the title.
“It is the benefit of multiple teams working on multiple chapters of the product, each getting several years to make their versions of an Assassin’s Creed game.”
But there’s more. In addition to a new Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft says that a new Far Cry isn’t going to take as long to come out as the third game did. Guillemot noted that “fans certainly won’t have to wait four more years for the next Far Cry,” with Far Cry 3 performing much better than the publisher expected.
Will the new Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry release on current or next-gen consoles? Ubisoft will almost certainly answer that question sooner than you might think.
