HMV has confirmed that all 16 Irish stores are to close, closures that will see 300 jobs lost.
Releasing a statement, David Carson of Deloitte said that the failure to find a purchaser for the affected stores in Ireland will see all stores close, citing rent costs, “web-based” retailers, digital downloads and the current market as the reason behind HMV’s recent woes:
“… the receiver has conducted an assessment of the viability of the company and has actively sought a sale. The marketplace is very difficult given competition from web-based retailers and digital downloads, compounded by a number of other factors including high levels of rent. All stores were loss making and it was not possible to attract a purchaser.”
We wish all those affected the very best.
Thanks, RTE
