Unofficial reports this evening suggest that HMV Ireland is no more with all stores now staying closed and all employees losing their jobs. We will keep you updated on this story as it develops.

ORIGINAL STORY

Deloitte has been appointed receiver of HMV Ireland, following the firm’s move into receivership in the republic earlier today.

All 16 shops Irish HMV stores were closed today and will remain closed for the immediate future, while the receivers examine the business and look for a perspective buyer. HMV could not confirm if and when the stores might open again. Some 300 jobs are now at risk. Deloitte are assessing the viability of the business and examining costs.

HMV refused to accept gift cards yesterday, much to the dismay of the consumer. The decision not to make good gift vouchers has been contested by the National Consumer Association (NCA) in Ireland. “The NCA’s position remains unchanged, that there is no basis for HMV (Ireland) Ltd refusing to honour gift vouchers, as the company is not under the protection of the administration or examinership process, despite what was indicated by the company to Irish consumers on January 15th”
