THQ has pulled out of it’s publishing commitment of Tomonobu Itagaki’s and Valhalla’s Devil’s Third, telling investors tonight that the “profitability profile of Devil’s Third no longer meets our internal threshold.”

THQ’s Brian Farrell said that the game no longer fits into this profile due to a couple of  “unforeseen development events,” one of these being that THQ had to help Valhalla build a new engine for the game because the original company working on the Devil’s Third engine went bust. It looks like THQ has put a lot of money into the game and can’t see itself getting it’s money back.

Farrell reiterated that THQ would continue to help Valhalla get the game to the market, albeit with another publisher. The game was originally announced all the way back in 2010. Hopefully it won’t get cancelled now.
