Ubisoft have confirmed that Ghost Recon: Future Soldier has gone gold.
Releasing May 25th on consoles (June 15th on PC), Future Soldier promises to arm gamers with “unrivalled combat technology and cutting-edge military hardware”. With the beta released only recently, we thought there would be more time for Ubisoft to monitor problems gamers have been having, then work on these issues – rather than going gold so soon? But maybe we don’t understand the whole concept behind a pre-release beta…

I’ve noticed that more often betas are increasingly closer to the game’s release date, which puzzles me. I thought the point of a beta was to iron out bugs and balancing issues etc.
As a developer I know that working to a set deadline can be difficult, so I’m surprised the devs don’t get more room to breath in terms of beta feedback.
I remember the days when a beta was at least months before the chalked in release date.
Me too Paul, me too…
I think some devs just throw around Beta but mean Demo. It’s an elitist thing, “Oh, what, you didn’t get in the demo.”, just doesn’t have the same ring as “Oh, what, you didn’t get in the beta.” I think Gears 3 was the last true console beta.
