It has emerged that Metal Gear Rising was actually cancelled by Kojima Productions before Platinum Games swooped in to take over, re-envisage and ultimately rescue the project.
According to the game’s producer Yuji Korekado in the latest Hideraji podcast, the project was actually canned after the KP team could not identify what the game’s core impetus was. Although a number of core design elements had already been completed, the game was to be shelved.
It was at this time that the team at Platinum Games became aware of the game’s half finished state. Somewhere along the line it was proposed that they take over development. Platinum were responsible for changing the game’s story and removing its “solid” status. Rising is not a Metal Gear Solid game. KP have since tweeted the following, confirming that Revengeance is not part of the MGS series;
“We’ve only said that the period setting is several years after MGS4. Metal Gear Rising is not part of the Metal Gear Solid series. At present, we can’t say more than this.”
It’s expected next year on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

I hate how they have Metal Gear Written on it. This game is from being metal gear, maybe the same world same character but the gameplay is some devil may cry shit.
Whats the problem with that? Why can’t games have spin-offs? Raiden was amazing in Metal gear Solid 4, but his style would never have worked in a stealth based game (Thats the main reason KP couldn’t nail the gameplay down) – As such, for a game about this character it makes more sense to have it play very differently. It should still be called Metal gear as its set in that universe, but I’m glad they took the Solid off the title as that’s reserved for the Solid Snake/Big Boss stealthy Metal Gear titles. I think people are being pure “Fanboi’s” and overly critical of this – It looks like an amazing game, set in an amazing universe that we all know and love. Snake isn’t in it? So what, get over it – Snake wasn’t even meant to live through 4, his time is passed. Long live Raiden and Long live Rising!
This game could be class. As long as its non-canon. I just think Platinum will make it like Bayonetta. Which was an amazing game but Christ was it Batshit crazy. Say what you want about Metal Gear Solid but it is a serious game with serious issues at the core. I just think Platinum will lose sight of this.
@ Joe grow up. It’s an action game set in the metal gear universe. So yes, it is a metal gear game. It’s metal gear rising, not metal gear solid. Yes it is metal gear. Even in the 2010 e3 trailer it was clearly an action based title. No one ever said this would be a stealth game ever.
