Sony have confirmed that Team ICO top brass Fumito Ueda has parted ways with the studio and with the company.
Following weeks of speculation, Sony told Gamasutra that Ueda had officially left and will now work on the highly anticipated PS3 exclusive “The Last Guardian” in a freelance capacity.
Ueda is best known for his PS2 classics ICO and Shadow of The Colossus. This news comes as both a shock and a blow for Sony, as Ueda is regarded by many as one of the finest game creators in the business.
His next game, the oft delayed “The Last Guardian”, still has no release date at this point. We wish Ueda all the best moving forward.
