Major Nelson has announced that there’s a new mandatory Xbox 360 update available today.

The update, according to the man himself, will not bring new features to the palette, but will instead prime the machine for “additional system enhancements coming to Xbox 360 later this year”. Speculation is growing that the update is in fact a mass ban hammer for modded consoles – again.

The update seems to be causing some people issues though as there is already a flurry of comments on the blog claiming that the update has disabled their Kinect device and more. Check the message below:

“Sometime during the day tomorrow (Tuesday, July 19th) when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you’ll receive a prompt to accept a mandatory system update. If you are signed into LIVE already, you may be signed out and asked to accept the update and you’ll be back online in a few moments.

There are no new features that will show up once your system has been updated.

This update is preparation for additional system enhancements coming to Xbox 360 later this year”.
