Finally…Nintendo have finally announced the real name for the hugely anticipated successor to the Wii.
The “Wii U” will feature aspects that seem to resemble a portable Wii machine. The controllers can be used completely seperately from the hardware itself and players can use it in conjunction with titles like Wii fit as well as making video calls and in fact, Wii U is backwards compatible with the entire Wii back catalogue.
Wii U will feature the following:
- Front-facing Camera
- Two circles pads
- Control pad
- Gyroscope
- Two speakers
- Complete front touch screen
- Microphone
- Accelerometer
Hitting stores next year, we’ll have more details as we get them.

Was it a controller for Wii? Was it a new system? I just dunno. God that was so dissapointing. Geeez…
Retro, I’m equally confused! All they showed off was the controller. I’d assume for the advertised releases that it would have to be a completely new console, but they didn’t show any of that…
Personally, I’m thinking Nintendo are trying to keep in touch with the many wants of today’s market. And in doing that – just as they did post SNES, they’ve got muddled up in the many wants of the market and produced something that emulates that confoundedness. It will fail to impress, but they will still have the Wii – and no doubt, some day, they’ll find a good successor. But this, by the looks of their presentation, is not it.
I’m pretty disappointed also. Rumours saying only 1 of these controllers can be used and the rest will be wiimotes….I left out a huge sigh of disappointment when I read that.
this is kind of a cool controller, but it goes against everything from the first Wii. How would you play a lot of classic Wii titles with this controller? Think about it….. games like Lego Star Wars, and the Mario Bros. Games may work, but other ones that rely on the motion of the controller will be far more difficult. I can bet each controller will cost around $100.
