–UPDATE 2–
EA had the following to say about the whole thing: “EA are not commenting on this as they have not announced the cast for ME3 as yet.”
–UPDATE–
TGL have reached out to EA for confirmation on the story below so until there’s an official confirmation from them, we feel it’s right to remove the “official” word from the header. What we know about the situation and what we can say about it are two different things so with that in mind, we have to thank our community for the feedback on the story.
–ORIGINAL STORY–
It seems that Michael Beattie will not be returning to reprise his role as Mordin Solus in Mass Effect 3.
Fans of the character have speculated whether the voice found in the E3 2011 gameplay video below was indeed Beattie or simply a replacement. Confirming the news to TGL, Beattie expressed that although he is still interested in the franchise, he is “currently” not onboard to play the character that has become, something of a cult hit:
“You are correct. That is not my voice you heard in the Mass Effect 3 trailer. As you know, I had a blast “giving voice” to Mordin in Mass Effect 2 and would love to reprise my role in ME3. However, as of this writing, I have not recorded anything for ME3 nor have I signed a contract to do so”.
With Beattie recast, Jack Wall not composing it and rumours of the much-respected Ginny Mc Swain STILL not part of the project; we’re becoming increasingly worried by the day.
We’ll see what EA have to say about the whole thing.

Are BioWare deliberately trying to piss their fans off or something? Michael Beattie IS Mordin Solus, recasting is a huge disappointment… There will only be one true scientist Salarian!!
WHAT THE HELL? Mordin is well loved and we LOVE the way Michael Beattie plays Mordin.
As PheonoM said, “There will only be one true scientist Salarian!!”
WE NEED TO WRITE E-MAILS. LIKE NOW! So fucking pissed.
Anyway, in case my other comment didn’t survive moderation,
I’m saying PheonoM is right,
THERE WILL ONLY BE ONE TRUE SCIENTIST SALARIAN!
We need petitions NOW. BRING BEATTIE BACK!
I agree. Michael is such a nice guy too by the way!
The E3 presentation used Mark Meer as a stand-in voice for multiple roles. Just because he hasn’t been contacted yet doesn’t mean Mordin has been “officially recast”.
Hopefully not, because Beattie was hands down the best voice in that game!
Bioware – what the hell?! Why on earth would you change anything? Bet you money was involveed!
One word. Why?
To quote Yeoman Kelly Chambers, Mordin is “like a hamster on coffee.”
Michael Beattie captured that perfectly. If whoever voiced the demo Mordin (was that Mark Meer?) is staying as that role I will be upset.
N.B. Someone pointed out to me that maybe they haven’t finalised all of Mordin’s lines, and are waiting to record with Beattie until they have.
Mark Meer did a great job at Mordin’s voice but it still just doesn’t sound right, I doubt he has been recast, they only recently finished Seth Green’s voice acting iirc (his last three hours or something like that?) so I dunno
There is still time for Bioware to record Beattie’s voice for Mordin, so I haven’t given up hope yet. It just wouldn’t make sense to recast the Professor after his original voice actor made him a fan favourite. Bioware have more sense than that, surely?
The writers were still revising dialogue sections up until recently. Given it’s too expensive to pay every voice-actor to come in on a regular basis to record the updated scripts, he’s probably only been replaced in early stages by a place-holder. Once the writers have it down and they are ready for recordings, they’ll bring him in.
Well, we can only hope that EA/BioWare come to their senses, but from what we know – the situation hasn’t changed
I’m getting nervous. Is there really enough time left between now and March for Beattie to record dialogue?
Come on Bioware, don’t let me down…
