The internet’s a crazy place. You really have to be careful about what you say or how you say it. This is particularly pertinent and apt when you’re talking about gamers, because let’s face it; we can be fairly ruthless when we want to be. So ever since Gametrailer’s Geoff Keighley expressed an OPINION that he thinks Mass Effect 2 will eventually come to the PS3, the web has gone wild with accusations that Keighley is a fanboy, that Bioware are 360 traitors and that Mass Effect 2 is WITHOUT DOUBT PS3 bound.
Now, we would only love to see Mass Effect 2 head to Sony’s console but until I get some official word from EA, Bioware or see the corresponding E3 PowerPoint presentation, TGL won’t believe it. Geoff Keighley’s opinion was fleetingly expressed on the latest edition of the Gametrailer’s show he chairs ‘The Bonus Round’. The web is now convinced that Mass Effect 2 is coming out on PS3, even though Keighley essentially said nothing of the sort.
Keighley said the following;
“Now the fact that [Mass Effect 2] is only on Xbox 360, a lot of debate now about whether it makes sense for publishers to make those games exclusive to a platform,” Keighley said, “I think the game will eventually come out for PlayStation 3 but they just can’t talk about it yet.”
Now in the romantic world of videogame killer scoops and tongue slipping, Keighley would have said that yes, ME2 IS coming to PS3 and he knows that EA can’t talk about it. That is of course, not what he said. He’s thinks ME2 might be coming to PS3 and he thinks, as a result, EA probably wouldn’t be at liberty to talk about its existence just yet.
So there you have it. As it stands, Mass Effect 2 isn’t coming to PS3. It is however coming out on the Xbox 360 this Friday January 29th. If we hear it is PS3 bound, we will report it.
