SONYGEM

It looks like EA may well have let the cat out of the bag and have accidentally mentioned the super secret name of the much talked about Sony Motion Controller. Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitirello name dropped ‘GEM’ at the 37th Annual Global Media Conference held in New York this morning. IGN posted Mr. Riccitiellos exact words. He said,

“In the coming year, both Sony and Microsoft have announced new controllers. Motion sensor controls, Natal and Gem, these are likely to bring new consumers into the marketplace.”

Is Riccitirello right? Did he give away the name with this slip of the tongue? TGL aren’t convinced but ‘GEM’, ‘G.E.M’ or even ‘Jem’ for that matter could actually be the titles. Riccitirello sounds pretty definite and conclusive with that statement. Sony has already responded and told IGN, “No official name for the PlayStation motion controller has been announced.”

So what to you think of Gem? Is it a good name for Sony’s Motion Controller? Thoughts and comments below please.

UPDATE:

Kotaku are now reporting that ‘GEM’ was an early prototype code name for the controller and will NOT be the controller’s final name when it goes to retail, thats according to Sony spokesman Patrick Seybold. More on this as we get it.
