On-rail shooters have everyone here at the TGL frustrated. It’s a tried, tired and tested formula and it’s been a while since the genre got a good shake up. In fact, I don’t think the genres ever had a shake up. While Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles doesn’t seem to be doing anything special enough to buck the trend too much, it will be recreating series TGL favorite Resident Evil 2, which is enough to grab our attention.
Dead Space: Extraction was actually quite fun to play so hopefully The Darkside Chronicles can match this and even do a bit better. Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles was fun but after a few blasts of two player it got pretty boring and as a result remains on my shelf un-played in a well over a year. What the Umbrella Chronicles lacked was Resident Evil 2. The Darkside Chronicles is dedicated to retelling Resident Evil 2’s story along which Code Veronica’s story. Were also told that a new untold Resi chapter will be playable.
The game comes out here next month but surprisingly won’t come out in Japan till January. The Japanese are getting nifty special collector’s edition though and I’ve spent the morning drooling over it. Along with the game itself, is the soundtrack, a promotional DVD and even a reversal sleeve. WOW. And it’s yours for ¥8,390 which is around €80.
Keep an eye out for the TGL review of The Darkside Chronicles next month.
